officer was not supposed to do it. during the 2010 event, leopold instructed him and another office to watch out for a woman named conn,ie she was not to approach him. -- a woman named connie. he said they did keep an eye on her, but she was not a security threat at all. he was given immunity. he said he saw it because he saw what leopold had done to others. >> for some like that to be put in a position where they are too uncomfortable to say this is ruining my life, it is just a disgrace. >> judge dennis sweeney will decide if leopold broke the law by using members of his security detail for personal and political duties. tomorrow, the defense will make a motion for a judgment of acquittal. the judge will decide the case will end or continue.

barry simms, wbal-tv 11 news. >> opening statements are set to begin tomorrow in the case of the murder of teenager phylicia barnes. the work of prosecutors may have gone much harder today because of the troubles of the lead detective in the case. jayne miller is live at the circuit court downtown. the judge today ruled that detective daniel nichols and can be questioned about whether he lied in the investigation of his own conduct. the troubles of baltimore detective daniel nichols on-air a full-blown subplot in the murder of phylicia barnes. the judge in the case ruled that he can be questioned about whether he told the truth last year when he allegedly headed up a rope search for his daughter when she ran away.

he was suspended because of that incident and revealed today new details of the law he may have broken. according to an investigative summary presented in court outside the presence of a jury, he allegedly misused police resources to track a cell phone number, forced his way into the apartment where he believed his daughter was hiding, tussled with a woman inside and held her down and took her cellphone. according to defense lawyers for michael johnson, nicholson like three different times when questioned by investigators. defense lawyers asked that the city state's attorney's office be removed from the case, arguing prosecutors have acted improperly by not charging nicholson. the judge denied that request. the detective could take the stand next week. one possibility, he would have to invoke his fifth amendment rights. jayne miller, wbal-tv 11 news.

but the baltimore city state's attorney's office says it will not be pressing charges against three police officers for the death of 46-year-old anthony anderson. police said anderson choked on drugs after allegedly being thrown on the ground. an autopsy determined he died from blunt force trauma. according to a link to report, officers were not involved in the physical encounter. however, the report says while his actions caused andersen's death, his use of force was not excessive. >> certainly within the condors of the formal police departments use of force guidelines, this would be an appropriate maneuver, given the degree of resistance that was presented. >> they are not going to charge the police for what they did. we have an autopsy report that tells us what we already knew.

the autopsy confirmed it. they just threw all of that out of the window and they are taking the police version and that is not fair. >> the report says witnesses corroborated testimony by the officers back on september 21 of last year that they followed anderson into a neighborhood known for drug activity. he allegedly put drugs in his mouth and stroman try to bear hug him to get him down to the ground to spit them out, which he did. the drugs turned out to be heroin. >> commissioner decision to make english carrolltowne's official language. >> it does not mean all that much as far as the carroll county operates. supporters say the ordinance is simple, but opponents say it is unnecessary.

the military from an announcement by the pentagon. leon panetta lifted the ban on women in combat. >> it was a move recommended by the joint chiefs of staff. sally kidd has more on the coming changes from our washington bureau. >> the defense secretary says not all women may be able to qualify to be a combat soldier, but all deserve the chance. a history making moment for women in the military. >> we are eliminating the direct ground combat exclusion rule for women. >> and lifting the ban, defense secretary leon panetta says women have already faced the realities of combat. >> if they can meet the qualifications involved here, there is no reason why they should not have a chance. >> the move will open up more than 230,000 battlefront post previously off limits to women.

navy seals. panetta has asked the military service chiefs to determine whether any job should still be off limits. sally kidd, wbal-tv 11 news. >> now, your insta-weather forecast with chief meteorologist tom tasselmyer. >> officially 2 inches of snow down at bwi marshall this morning. that is the most we have had on a single day since january 2011. it has been awhile since we had a little bit of snow around here. we have already almost doubled the total snowfall we had all last winter. traces here and there, and last year we only ended up with 1.8 inches for the entire winter. this morning, less than an inch here on tv hill. towson had a dusting of snow there. a significant amount of snow in parts of southern maryland, in st. mary's county, 5.5 inches of snow.

ellicott city with an inch, bellaire with. 10 inch. it was a destined to the north and a couple of inches well to the south of baltimore -- a dusting to the north. it does not take much moisture when you have arctic air around to get some accumulation, with just a little bit of moisture in the atmosphere. the high today was 15 degrees below average. in the morning, temperatures were in the teens. here is that snow on radar at 1:00 a.m. this morning. watch how quickly moved out of that area. clear sky around our area tonight. temperatures will fall fast and down here may be a trace of snow in your backyard. expect rapidly falling temperatures and those that arrange from eight to about 18 near the bay at the inner harbor, a light northwest

breeze. a winter weather advisory on the eastern shore in delaware already for tomorrow afternoon. nothing officially posted but that will probably change by 11:00 tonight. a winter storm warning out in garrett county. it moves through with a little bit of moisture, but if the air is cold enough it will result in some snow. like in the accumulation. it will get off the coast by about 11:00 or midnight tomorrow night. most of the weekend will see sunny skies returning. it will not produce massive amounts of snow. in the blue shaded area, that is the second category, 1-3 inch snowfalls that we or expecting by the time it winds down late tomorrow night.

it could complicate things in that rush hour tomorrow evening. a much heavier snow in the mountains. cold temperatures, 5-9 inches of fluffy snow out there and more snow showers in the mountains on saturday. eastern shore, the snow rise in the evening but it is out of here by saturday. the forecast, we will crawl at of the deep freeze over the weekend and get above freezing on sunday. close to 40 on monday and some 50's by the middle of next week. >> this is 11 sports. >> super bowl 47 sets up as an intersection of first. the last game for ray lewis, the first super bowl for 47 of his teammates. ed reed playing in his first super bowl and what will possibly be his last game as well. lots of drama heading to new
